Igniting the Moral Courage of America by Dean Kilmer

I was approached to do this book review and I didn't know what I was getting into. WOW! is all I can say. It is defiantly a book that any serious Christian should read. I also think anyone that runs for any public office (politicians) ought to read it too. I truly wish we had more Sarah Palin's in this world. American people need to stand up for what it right. We need to get a backbone and turn this country around. I must say that Dean Kilmer in this book is right on the button. We need more families in American that care about moral integrity and take a firm stand. You may think what can one person do. Well, that's the problem we've been defeated with that thought. Kilmer refers to it as a ripple effect; throwing a stone in calm water and it ripples out. One person takes a stand and gets others to join his cause. We're just afraid to be that one person. We need more people to want to take back the morals of America.

In Igniting the Moral Courage of America Mr. Kilmer gives us a look at the history of America's moral decline in the first chapter.
Chapter two he discusses 5 changes in our thinking that have kidnapped our integrity as a nation and thus our downfall.
Chapter three, helps us to understand what integrity is and supplies us with 4 steps to restoring integrity.
The fourth chapter, 4 daggers that have come into the HEART of the American Families are expounded on. These being: single-parent families, divorce parents, homosexual relationships, and abortion.
Chapter five, gives insight in building integrity and fidelity back into the home. The author looks at 4 characteristics that will build lasting homes and provide a foundation for the future of America (our children)
In the sixth chapter, several 'fears' are discussed that are hurting the moral courage in America.
The seventh chapter, we are given 5 areas that we must demonstrate courage in order to impact the future.
"When we refuse to confront today, we create a bigger problem for tomorrow. Whenever we back away from a problem, it doesn't go away or get better-it festers and gains power. It destroys our power to act. When we avoid painful situations, we inflict damage on our souls and compromise our integrity." ~ Robert Staub
Chapter 8, Kilmer takes a look at how our schools have come to be infected.
Chapter 9,
discusses how we can change the trend in our education system back to dynamic moral character developing; Reclaiming our schools.
Chapters 10 & 11, The author helps us see the need for Rebuilding the Foundation of moral integrity in America. America is living on Quicksand and it needs to build on a foundation of truth.
Then in the last chapter, 12, Kilmer ties it all up with Allowing God to Empower You! He gives us 5 things that we must do to be that person God wants to use.
"God doesn't call the qualified; He qualifies the called."
Oh, if we could just get this book into the hands of every Christian in America maybe we could start to see the `ripple effect' the author talks about. We need ordinary people with great courage to accomplish God's will. Will we ever be a nation with strong moral values willing to stand strong in opposition for those moral values? This book would make a great group study book even could be used as adult Sunday school lessons. Each chapter is followed up with great thought provoking questions.
